Thanks for allowing me to join the forum!  I'm the type of guy who's always in to reading and trying to learn as much as I can, regardless if I already know about it or not.  Simply put, I'm a hobbyist when it comes to detailing. I own 3 vehicles which I try to keep in immaculate condition but due to my work schedule and my involvement in my other hobbies (sprint car racing and trap shooting), it can be difficult at times! But generally if it's nice outside and I'm not spinning wrenches or driving the race car, I'm usually in the driveway or garage with a microfiber towel or clay bar in hand!

Right now I'm daily driving an '01 Lexus IS300 (200k+ miles and this thing will just not let go, super solid car), the 'fun car' is an '02 Corvette (electron blue, full bolt's and a cam) and the work horse is an '05 Silverado. Besides those I've got a couple sprint cars, a dirt bike, an ATV, etc etc that I enjoy 'detailing' as well.  I've always enjoyed using Adams products but I really don't have brand loyalty to any one company. I enjoy trying and experimenting with everything! From Chemical Guys, to CarPro, to Adams, to Swissvax, to 3D, on and on. Right now my current obsession is the H20 Guard & Gloss from Adams, I received it in the 'mystery box' and was BLOWN away by the results. Anyways, thanks for having me!

    Hello everyone.

I've always enjoyed detailing my cars, as much as I hate how sore I am the day after. I jumped on the Chemical Guys train like 10 years ago (when they had paper labels) and quckly learned its not about the brand, but about the products.

Two years ago I started divining into other brands (my buddy was always an Adams guy) and I picked up some other stuff. Menzerna, Wolfganag, Poor Boys.

Just recently when Adams did the Mystery buckets I picked up two... So far Ive only used the Wheel Cleaner and the 4th of July soap... and Im sold

I still use my Menzerna and other products for polishing, but Im slowly making the switch and finding more Adams products I like. Shoot, I just ordered 4 more Mystery boxes!

The soap ROCKS. I dont know whats different about it. But just washing my wife's GTI, in direct sun, with hard Frederick city water - I had almost no water spots. Had a few run off drops that was more then acceptable. My coworker also commented about the new soap washing his black car as well.

Anyway, here's my Subaru (the car that got me into the world of cars, detailing, and making friends.) and my... I mean my wife's GTI. I also have a Subaru Crosstrek, which has never been detailed. Need to get more new gear for that unless someone local wants to give me a hand.

Also, Subaru Ambassador checking in! Let me know if you have any Subaru needs, or questions

Oh, I am looking to buy a new polisher to upgrade from my Porter Cable.... Been eyeing the Rupes unless there's better recommendations. Just cant really swing spending $400 on something like that right now

Went on a short drive, 4,750 miles to be exact, down to the Bondurant racing school for a free fun filled day at the track learning how to drive & then on to San Diego and up the coast to San Francisco and home. Ran her hot and hard & did not take it easy, getting a new windshield in the morning as this one was toast the 1st 500 miles......

Anyway....looking for some shortcuts, I've had multiple back surgeries, lots of metal, can't bend/twist and other crap that make it hard to detail the whip.....and on the road it get's even worse...sometimes I'm not physically able to actually wash it and wiping down with H20G&G after a touch free car wash is all I can do.

Used a foam gun, couple buckets, brushes, wheel cleaner (they were black from the brakes) tire cleaner and then H20G&G, no wax, no polish or anything and this is how she looks....
Have not attacked the interior yet.......
Have another 2.5K mile road trip coming up in a couple weeks, will get home & then turn and burn on yet another 4k mile road trip to Pittsburgh/Gettysburg and back before the snow starts to fall....

Ideas/tips/tricks on how get the best results using the least effort.......

ZO6Rebel reacted to 07stanggt in Wetsanding my Shelby
So, part of my winter mods included wet sanding and buffing my 2013 Shelby GT500. I have always wanted to do this, and after some practicing on a used trunk from a Lincoln and viewing videos and some expert advice from my painter, I decided to give it a shot. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS unless you have buffed out over 100 cars in your lifetime, have extensive knowledge of what wet sanding is and does, or have a big set of kahonas ! This is a one shot deal, so messing up is NOT an option. I started by taping off my car to eliminate any and all clearcoat that has been sanded off so it doesn't dry (pain in the butt to get out of seams etc) and also to eliminate hitting any trim etc with the sandpaper or polisher. Maybe overkill but not taking chances. After the taping was done, I started with 2000 grit paper and finished it off with 3000 grit to make it perfect. I did use 1500 grit at the beginning, although it did remove the clearcoat, it seemed like an extra step that was not needed in my situation. The idea with wet sanding is to remove, smooth out , any orange peel on your paint. It leaves the paint looking like glass, bringing out all of the natural color in the paint, further enhancing the color in the metallic as well. Polishing takes out scratches, wet sanding removes that orange peel look. Big difference. After using both grits of sandpaper, l used Adams old Severe Swirl Remover, then Adams orange Paint Correcting Polish, and finished it off with Adams white Finishing polish to get the paint to be perfect after wet sanding. LOTS of hours but INSANE results. I'm about half way done, so any of the pics do not include any products like Brilliant Glaze or wax to give it shine, yet. I will post up pics as time goes on and will show some end result pics when finished. Fyi, I am replacing the hood with an aftermarket one and the bottom of the car which is taped off is getting painted so no need to wetsand those areas. Here are some pics. Again, do not attempt this, this is not just a weekend "hey lets try this" project !! Here are some pics for ya....

ZO6Rebel reacted to VetteDream in Ceramic Coating on Vette - New Coating Formula
EDIT: Dan@Adams indicated via chat today that I may have received the new formula, even though it shipped about a month ago.  I just checked my bottle, and I did apply the new 9H formula.

Here is a write up of my recent ceramic coating experience.  I spent multiple days working on it, as others have shared.  I started with a car that won its class at a car show based on “Show and Shine” the prior weekend, so I started with a pretty clean car.  Even with that, I did a full detail and spent many hours on prep work.  I will try to share some tips throughout that may help others -  most of which I received or read here in the forums.  I am relatively new to detailing, and not a professional.

Day 1 - Rinsed car, foamed, rinsed, then did the 2 bucket wash with CS.  Dried using great white drying towels.  Clayed using DS and Visco Clay.  I used a liberal amount of DS and really took my time hitting all painted surfaces.  The car had fine scratches in the clear coat that were difficult to see in sunlight, but could be seen with bad garage lighting (more on the lighting later).  Therefore, I used the SK Mini with orange pad and orange correcting polish over the whole car, after doing a test in a small area.  The SK mini is awesome, and much easier to use in the tight areas of a C7.  I had to perform 2 passes on a couple of areas to completely correct the finish.  I would say this did about a 97% correction.  I can still find a few very fine and shallow scratches in certain light, but the correction is pretty solid.   I did this in the garage with the door closed (to minimize dust) with two overhead household light bulbs - evening and night.  Not ideal lighting to say the least.  These steps took 4-5 hours total.

Day 2 - Checked the car over one more time for correction quality.  I actually did one more pass on an area on the hood.  I then got ready to coat.  Per advice here on the forum, I decided to use Coating Prep spray on a section of the car, then coat, then spray prep, then coat, and so on.  I did this to minimize dust, and specifically pollen as it is in season right now and difficult to keep off the car.  I would suggest to others without a dust/pollen issue just to use coating prep spray on the whole car, and be thorough.  I feel like doing a section, then coating almost caused me to miss the coating prep on a section or two as I got interrupted or distracted.  I used the rubber gloves and started working in small 2x2 areas as suggested in the videos.  I put four or five drops on the applicator at a time.  My lighting was so poor, and my car is a dark metallic gray, that I never saw a rainbow effect.  Another reason I may not have seen a rainbow effect quickly is that this was the new formula which allows for more time to wipe off.  I didn’t know that at the time I applied it,  I just waited 30-40 seconds then wiped off the coating.  I did touch the surface once to see if it was tacky.  I wiped that area off, but I actually left a fingerprint in the coating! If I had personal advice here, it would be to follow what others have said and use a couple of MF towels and be thorough knocking it down and removing the residue.  Lighting played a role in me not leveling a couple of areas evenly.  I did get greedy on some areas and tried to do a couple of larger sections - not a great idea as the residue was a little more difficult to remove in that case.  Anywhere I got coating on the glass or vinyl stripes, I simply wiped them off immediately - no issues.  This process took a few hours.

Day 3 - After 24 hours, I applied Ceramic Boost.  I followed what I saw on the videos, where Adam sprayed the small area a few sprays.  Too much Ceramic Boost is a problem.  It is not the easiest stuff to work with and leaves streaks when over used.  Shane here on the forums in another thread gave advice to use one or two sprays per panel - I totally agree with that.  I used too much and made my life difficult.  I was very happy with the results, but had not pulled the car out of the garage yet during the day to inspect in better light.

Day 4 - drove the car to work, and immediately noticed high spots and streaks in the coating, and found the fingerprint in the coating I mentioned above.  I will say that BG is now one of my favorite Adam’s products.  Based on advice here, and on the theory of using the least abrasive first to fix something, I used BG on several streaks and what appeared to be high spots on section overlaps, and a few spots that I just missed taking off the residue.  It did a great job.  On two or three other small spots I used the SK mini with a very small amount of Finish Polish and almost no pressure on the machine.  This removed the finger print and a couple of other high spots with no problem.

My one big bit of advice would be to use excellent lighting when doing this.  If I had better lighting, I could have saved some after the fact work and done a better job the first time through.  All in all, I am very happy with the results.

yes Ive got a little collection going on, but I am far from some of the others I have seen. Im missing some of the older ones, but Im always looking to pick up the ones I need so slowly but surely its getting there. I was actually one of the guys that was bidding on that 100k detail spray that sold for $128 on ebay. I think my max bid was set to like $127 or something and I was at work when the auction ended so I didnt realize I was outbid at the last second. Who knows what that thing would have gone for if I was there to keep bidding! Were you able to order the Illest collab LE detail spray? These are a couple old pics, I have quite a bit more now, Im just waiting for a couple of Limited Edition items I have coming this week and then I will take some new, updated pics.

Hello Team Adam's Polishes and all Adam's Forums members. Happy to be a part of the community. I've been using Adam's Polishes for about a year now. I started out with their older ceramic paint coating kit and wheel coating kit. I drive a 2017 Mustang GT and use exclusively Adam's products on it. I'd consider myself one of those weekend warriors who loves detailing his car but I'm slowly moving towards a part time business. I've been doing friends and family members cars and they are amazed by the results and work. Again, thanks for having me and I look forward to a wonderful community experience here on the Adam's Polishes Forums.
