  1. Thanks for the responses everyone!  I appreciate it!

Beautiful garage! While everyone was admiring the lift, electrical works, etc. I zoomed in on the corner with your rods n reels. I love my fishing more than my garage time...just barely.

I wish they got more use!  I need to give them a good work out soon!

  2. I'm intrigued as I've been considering various lift options. Especially after doing the Lotus which doesn't easily go on jackstands. Instead I took the wheels off one at a time, coated then and reinstalled. Then repeated the process again to boost them. A low or mid rise lift would be a massive time saver. And since that doesn't have to stay on the floor all the time, it's even better. Which model did you go with? I saw they have a few. I'd like something that can do smaller cars as well as a typical truck? Although a truck is easy enough to jackstand.

It's the BL-5000SLX.  And I really, really like it.  I used to do all my wheels off the way you did.  It got to be a pain, this lift makes it so much easier.  And, it's portable.  You can even take it to your buddies house in the back of a pick up or SUV!  Nice!

  3. Holy cow that looks fantastic!  And those doors look amazing!

I was in a class taught by Jason Rose at Mobile Tech Expo and he recommended black walls and ceilings for paint correction (the Rupes studio is setup this way)...sounds cool, but I am sure Mrs. Sizzle would have vetoed that!

Thanks Mike!  Yeah, I thought about darker walls...but yep, she dropped the gavel on that idea!  LOL

  4. I've been wanting to do some 'updates/upgrades' to the operating room at Autodermatology for a while now. Finally finished with my research and pulled the trigger!

New epoxy floors, garage doors, and openers!

I'm digging it! I think it looks great. I have 12' ceiling and I went with high lift tracks for the garage doors. This raised the doors almost to the ceiling and really opened up the area. It also gave me more room for additional lighting which I will add shortly. I also had wall mounted door openers installed in order to remove the old garage tracking/motors from the center of the ceilings.

I still need to add my additional lighting as well as do some painting on the ceilings and walls where some old supports were and it will be completely finished!

The floors are base coat, top coat, full broadcast with mica chips and then top coated. Baseboard was also added all the way around for a 'finished' look.

    Comments are welcome!!!

  5. I've used both the wash mitt, alternative bar, and of course, clay.

Benefits of alternative style:  If you drop it, you just need to rinse it off and continue using it.  The mitts are a little 'faster', you can cover more area with it.

Clay:  still the benchmark IMO.  I still find myself going back to clay for some jobs. It sometimes just seems to 'work' better, also I have multiple types-heavy, medium, fine, to choose from.

Whatever you use, it's a critical step to a fantastic finish and excellent results!

    Hope this helps!

  6. Thank you!

I have the Defelsko PosiTector 200 Series.  My first gauge was a Highline or similar and it served me well for some time!

The difference between them are that the 'lower' end gauges can only read ferrous substrates, whereas the 'higher' end gauges can read on plastic, carbon fiber, etc.  I needed a gauge that could read paint on any surface due to the variety of vehicles I have come through the shop.

  7. I use one on every clients car.  I think of them as mandatory.  They will not only allow you to 'see' what is going on with the finish you are working with: previous paint work, previous paint corrections, etc, it will give you the piece of mind in knowing how far you can push your correction.  They will also help you decide in how aggressive to get or not get in some cases.

I have a top end DeFelsko.  I really like it.  Again, I use it on every vehicle.  Even though it was very expensive, I find that it was worth it to me.

IMO:  at the minimum, if you are detailing professionally or for money, you should have a basic gauge that reads thickness on ferrous materials.  That's just my opinion.

    Hope this helps you!

  8. Jason:

IMO, most coatings are designed to have a 'booster' or 'topper' applied to them as part of a maintenance routine.

On my professional/authorized dealer only coatings that I use, I have my clients on a 6 month maintenance schedule and I do in fact 'top' the coating with a booster/sealant/topper to maintain the coating's properties and keep them 'as new'.  Also some of these that I use offer a warranty...and that warranty is based on a dedicated maintenance schedule.

It's been my experience that the coating's properties will appear to have diminished some...even though they are still in tact, and people and customers like to see the super hydrophobic properties of a freshly applied coating.

    Hope this helps some!!!
