07stanggt
I thought I would share with you some detailing I did on 9 cars to get them ready for the World of Wheels Show in Boston last weekend. All the cars were done exclusively with Adams products !! Clay bar, 2 step paint correction, Brilliant Glaze, Patriot Wax, Metal Polish 1 and 2, SVRT, Flex 3401 polisher, a ton of towels and 110 hours of work etc. were used to get these cars ready. Hers some pics. Captain Slow, Dan@Adams, zapdon and 4 others

AvsBest
Great work! Is there anything different when correcting a 60s mustang vs a modern car? Paint wise I mean, harder, softer, being careful about certain things?

Paint wise I mean, harder, softer, being careful about certain things? I took the same approach as I do with modern cars, being careful all the time !! All of these cars had repaints done during their restoration so they were all shot with modern clear coat so no issues. Old and original paint you have to be VERY careful with especially around edges, corners of panels, around trim, etc. You also tend to get a decent amount of paint left on the pads as well with older cars so slower speeds on the machine and small test spots are a good idea. Nothing worse than buzzin off a spot on a 50 year paint job !! mc2hill

And what would you qualify as modern paint? 1980 and up ish?
07stanggt
Thanks for the info. I usually go at speed 6 on tbe Flex 3401 on regualr cars, what would you recommend on a 1970 original paint? And what would you qualify as modern paint? 1980 and up ish? I am usually at 6 as well on most cars. As far as what speed for what paint, it can vary,so test with the variable speed and keep the machine MOVING , you will know by the results you get when you make a pass or two. Start with the least aggressive polish first and work your way up. Its a one shot deal with old paint, so be careful no matter year it is. "Modern paint" also varies by manufactures and clear coat varies as well by year. Some hard, some soft, some water based paint, enamel paint, etc., I don't know if there's a modern chart out there as to what manufacture used what type of paint/clear coat by year and make of vehicle, but it would be helpful. I just start slow and easy on a panel, and take it from there.
