Either one will be fine.  I would still recommend some sort of prep wipe to remove any surfactants left behind by either one.

Looks like you are getting good results.  I always liked how my brothers red 03 grand prix looked when it was polished and coated many years ago before he sold it.

Ray that is a great idea about cutting them and using them in different areas. Here are a few pics. Thanks everyone for all you input. I was extreamely nervous about using the swirl killer. You have made it a lot easier.

I haven't used the swirl killer other than holding it in my hands on display at the Anaheim location.  But the philosophy should still be the same.  Microfiber pads in my experience like to be used on a slower speed with slower arm speed like speed 4 and just the pressure of the machine.  Also microfiber pads like to be primed with product to get all of the fibers coated with product.  Higher speeds and pressure will dry up the product along with the temperature and humidity one is working in.

Shrink your area shoulder width apart on slow speed and see if that helps.  I have found the paints on Grand Prix's to be on the medium side and correct fairly easy even with a foam cutting pad but still need a polishing step as compounding usually leaves micro-marring behind.

Have you done a test spot to see if you actually need to go this aggressive?  You could probably go straight to polishing after your correction step.  You asked about the number of pads needed.  About 6 pads for cutting and 4 for polishing for an average size car like the Grand Prix.

The Camaro on the other hand has hard paint and microfiber and compound is usually needed to remove deep defects.

A quick clean up on my brothers 2018 Equinox Redline Edition.  It has a 20 month old cquartz coating and it was still somewhat there.  His lease is up in 3 months so not looking for a full polish and recoat as he is not going to keep it.  A quick once over with Essence Plus and topped with a double coat of Adams UV spray coating.  Good enough for 3 months.

The Guz reacted to falcaineer in Ceramic Coat application "flash time"
Time to remove varies with amount applied, temp, humidity, etc. In general, 2-5 minutes is a pretty good rule, but mileage will vary. You mention tackiness, and that's a better way to judge.

Take a plush Microfiber towel (Borderless Grey work great) folded in quarters, and very lightly - no pressure - drag it a bit over the coating. If it slides easily, it's too soon to remove it. Once it starts to drag and get tacky against the coating, then it's time. Another good rule is to remove it in the same order you applied it, that way you allow it to bond at about the same rate across the panel.

If you're n doubt, you could apply a second layer. Just wait 1-2 hours before doing so.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the reply and your experience. I'll leave out re-paint coating and just work with CS3 and boost. Thanks again...

Thank you for replying so fast to my question. I will not re-ceramic paint coat as you've suggested. I also liked your idea of not touching the black more than I need to, so I'll save the CS3 until after each foam cannon, two bucket wash. The first wash I did I really liked using air to dry the truck. Thanks again! - MC

You should not need to apply the coating 6 months down the line.  With proper maintenance it will perform just fine for a year or two.  I say this because the paint will more than likely need a repolish not only to restore gloss but to remove any marring developed over that period of time and also road grime which can stain paint.  More readily seen on light colors.  At most a chemical decontamination wash every few months is a good idea.  I would not recommend claying as it has the potential to marr the surface and the way to fix that is polishing.

Seeing as your truck is garaged contamination should be relatively light.

If I had a black vehicle I would not touch it until its weekly wash.  The more one touches the paint the more chance of risking marring.  With that said most people like to constantly touch their paint and you plan sounds fine.

    Products:

    Adams UV Ceramic Paint Coating

    Adams UV Ceramic Spray Coating

    Adams Ceramic Boost

    Adams UV Light

    Short description of each product

Ceramic Boost is the maintenance product for the coatings.

    3-6 months protection
Can be used on paint, chrome, plastic, wheels and glass.

UV Paint Coating is new for 2019 with the UV attribute. Essentially the UV light is used to see where the coating has been applied. Adams calls it their patent pending ceramic glow technology.

    9H
    5+ years protection

    Cure time 12-24 hours
    Max layers is 3
Can be seen with 395 UV light
Does not glow in the dark

UV Ceramic Spray Coating has been reformulated with the ceramic glow technology for 2019.

    Solvent based ceramic spray coating
    10-12 month durability
Can be used on paint, glass, headlights, tonneau covers, soft tops, chrome, trim, wheels, bed liners
    Max layers is 3
Can be seen with 395 UV light
Does not glow in the dark

UV light is used for the coatings. It is 396 NM with 100 LED UV Blacklights. Requires 6 AA batteries.

I applied to a silver hood which is my test panel for the product. Prepped with 3D ACA finishing polish and prep wiped with Americana Global Stripper.

Application is pretty straight forward. Same technique used for any other coating.

This is one where I just spread the product and it can be seen under the light.

I divided the hood into three sections. The ceramic boost does not contain the glow technology. So it will not show any change under the light.

After pulling the tape back we can see that both the spray and paint coating react to the light. You will notice the darkening effect is more pronounced for the paint coating under the UV light.

This is the transition point to the area where Ceramic Boost was applied.

From a distance the coated areas are clearly shown with the UV light.

Notice the over spray from misting onto the surface.

    Final thoughts on application:

From an application stand point the paint coating is pretty straightforward to use. Easy to spread out and easy to wipe off. Feels slick upon removal. It did take me a few extra passes to have even coverage of the coating. After that I understood how the product behaved at the temperature and humidity I was working with.

The spray coating is easy to work with. Simply mist the applicator and spread the product out. I misted on the panel and got a little overspray. This is always a concern and thus using an applicator is the best method to avoid over spray. It does not take long for it to flash for it to be wiped off.

The ceramic boost is very easy to work with. Simply wipe and wipe off. An easy product to maintain either of these coatings.

In terms of slickness it is ceramic boost, the spray coating and then the paint coating.

I was not sure how long the effect under the UV light stays around. But after reading more about the coating it appears that it will be visible under the UV light specked out by Adams. It will not be seen in the daylight or glow at night.

Overall it is a good way to see if the coating is applied to an area or the potential of a high spot being left behind. A good coating for anyone worried about those things especially first timers.

One thing about Adams is that their products are user friendly.

I can not comment on durability just yet. That test will come later.

It is an interesting characteristic and kudos to Adams for thinking outside the box to differentiate their coatings.

A couple application videos. Part 3 is a little long as it includes the application of the spray coating, ceramic boost and I share my final thoughts on application.

That would be the least of my concern.  Simply use it again.  That is the beauty of a spray product.

One thing I will mention is to flush out the sprayers with hot water after using the spray coating.  It helps to prevent the coating from clogging up inside the sprayer.
