CMDChase reacted to Rich in Comparing others to Adam's
I took my once a year excursion to Wal Mart yesterday and was checking out their automotive department to see what stuff is out there, and if anyone else was making any micros or brushes or anything close to what Adam's sells.  Let me tell you , the microfibers, the mitts, etc. are all inferior to Adam's.  I can't believe that anyone would use some of that stuff on their paint.  Scratchy, rough, poorly made.  Just the difference in the microfiber was noticable right away. You could see it even before you felt it.  There was NOTHING there that I would have even been tempted by.  Then I found a "roll" of what they were calling car towels. Plain white towels for general use. Man, if those things touched the paint or clear coat it would have been instant scratch.  Unbelievable.
I'll pay a little more, but I'm sticking with Adam's.

Also if you want to make your own you can just drill holes in deck post sleeves like this and mout it to the wall.

I have the McCulloch that RickyBobby is talking about and also purchased it at Harbor Freight for under $100 with a coupon in Sunday's paper. Works extremely well in cleaning the engine bay.

I use $25 an hour plus supplies as a good starting estimate. You just have to figure out how long it will take by either past experience or, when you're first starting out, trial and error. Either way, lots of luck to you. It's a great way to make some extra cash

I am 17 years old and have really fell for the whole detailing thing hard! I've always been the kind to like a clean vehicle but when I found Adams it was like a whole different world! (And my truck looks amazing ever since). I'm saying all that to say, I've worked up to detailing on the weekends and landed a spot with a gentleman in town detailing his Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 2 vettes, and wife's mercedes. He wants a full detail on all of them, and I have the equipment to provide what he wants, what I'm trying to ask is what should I charge? Being a non-professional, 17 year old, I guess I have to take that in to consideration...he wants to pay me per vehicle. Any opinions?

Got mine at Lowes and works great.  But I still bring them inside.  I suggest you get a couple of storage totes to hide your stuff in while in the house.  Or to make your wife happy, let her pick out some kind of storage trunk or toy chest or hamper type deal that will look okay in the house, but will hold your Adam's.

You know the saying.............Happy wife, happy life.  Man, is that the truth!

Same here Rich. In my part of the state (Allentown) the police really enforce that law. It makes things challenging.

I have one and love the size. I usually palm the "head" of the brush instead of grabbing the handle. Since the handle is so short I don't have to worry about banging it onto places I don't want when being aggressive.

Use dry pads. I prime them with a spritz of detail spray first but that's it. As far as the grit guard pad washers, I have one and love it. It cleans and dries in no time at all. A heck of a lot easier than cleaning by hand. The last time I looked, Eric Thompson at Thompsons Racing still had some at a pretty decent price.

I guess everybody has their own idea of what expensive it.  At $140 bucks if your detailing for a living is worth the price.  Having the right tool for the job makes everything easier.  Some may say having a hammer and nail is sufficient as opposed to spending $300 + on a nail gun.  However I found situations where trying to hammer a nail would be difficult.  All about what works for you.  I know if I were detailing a lot I would pick one up.

Zappo's is pretty darn awesome!  I haven't been an Adam's customer as long as I've been shopping at Zappo's... but the President wrote a book than MANY companies view as the 'bible for customer service'.
And Amazon has great customer service as well.

BUT... both of those companies don't have the same customer intimacy because of their size in comparison to Adam's.  So your point is well taken.
