Sanding with anything lighter than 3000 is more or less a waste of time when today's polishes can rectify 2000 and even 1500 grit sanding scratches. I go straight to polish after 2500. And remember, just like polishing, you always go with the least aggressive approach. I have no idea why people will sand 3, 4, or more times. Keep taking clear off and your begging for a trip to the body shop for a respray....

I have a shut valve on my hose just above the connection so I can change out the nozzle with the foam gun.  I shut it off there.

Mercedes paint is very hard, the microfiber pad and your Flex should do the trick if paint is swirled up.

It's a good thing you have the Flex, it's correction power is needed for paint this hard.

Once you get the swirls out, finishing is a breeze.

I always go with Orange foam first then if it doesn't achieve the desired results then I go with Orange MF.
Have fun & post up some pics.

Odds and Ends got a reaction from Ricky Bobby in All Purpose Cleaner vs Simple Green
When I first became an Adam's dealer, I thought APC would be something that I wouldn't use a lot of, sell much of, or be concerned about recommending it.  Quite the contrary.....I use a ton of it in my shop, always recommend it and it is a good seller on my retail side.

I have no scientific evidence to back this up, but I would guesstimate that it compares more to the purple version....I think it was Simple Green HD?  Do they even still make that?  It's been that long since I've bought another degreaser!  I use Purple Power for mopping my shop floor but I have used APC in an emergency.  It's a great product and if you spray it on an oily mess of an undercarriage, it will break it down pretty good.  It is, however, no substitute for brake cleaner or Gunk engine degreaser, but now we're talking slightly different categories of cleaners.

Odds and Ends reacted to Dan@Adams in How do you wash the top?
I will usually open the door and stand on the door sill and wash that section of the roof. For the section behind the doors on large suv's or a truck with the cap on the bed, I will use a step stool to step up onto the tire and then clean that way, holding onto a roof rail with one hand for support if the vehicle has one. If the rear bumper has a step area, I will use that as well, just be careful not to slip off anywhere and hurt yourself or put a knee into a panel and dent it.

Try 0000 steel wool with Glass Cleaner as lubricant.  Be careful around edges not to scratch paint and/or trim.

It's cloudy and dreary here today so here are a few indoor shots.   I'll take some more before it gets loaded into the trailer and on it's way later today.

Yup, based on the photo, it looks like sap to me too.  Use a citrus based chemical such as Goo Gone or other adhesive remover.  It may take a while to break down but resist the urge to "rub harder".  Let the chemical do the work.

Odds and Ends got a reaction from mc2hill in How long does a good detail take?
    As usual, "well said Dylan"....

I will take this opportunity to expand on my first response to this thread and reiterate what Dylan mentions about results.  I've found that my approach is somewhere in between the fixed price and the hourly.  If people are put off by the price, I simply ask them if they are willing to accept X% results based on me doing less work.  If they are, the conversation continues.  If they aren't, I suggest that they shop around and make sure they have "realistic expectations".  That's one of my favorite catch phrases.  Practically anything can be fixed and make it look new....sometimes better than new.....but at what price?

I don't give anybody a price until I meet with the owner AND see the vehicle in person.  I will give fixed pricing for a specific task but will upcharge if any particular task is going to take more work.  Even with your above example, "interior" and "engine bay" need more clarification for me.  Wash, clay and wax I could ballpark based on the size of the vehicle, but what exactly are you doing to the interior?  Steaming cloth seats takes a little longer but is much easier than scrubbing dirty nasty leather/vinyl.  So are you going to charge for your time or your effort?  I like to charge based on the results.

I would think for an average size car or small SUV, you should be able to knock out your above list in 3-4 hours.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there are always more questions to ask and the best piece of advice I can give you is to make sure you and the customer are of the same page with regards to expectations and the price being charged.  I like to joke and say that if the first question is "how much do you charge for X", then you're probably at the wrong place.  If the first question is "Can you fix X", then we can have a conversation about what you want me to do and how much I'm going to charge you for that amount of work.

    Hope that helps.....
