Yes, some are nothing more than a hyped up sealant, but true coatings definitely make a difference in my opinion. So far, no chemical has fased what's on my car.

SInce I started testing coatings, both unique formulations and stuff sold by other companies, this isnt' true for all of them. The big guys the Opt and CP are living up to the claims for sure. The smaller outfits though - theres a lot of hype that isn't delivered on. One very popular option (that I won't name) was applied and I was able to completely diminish the beading properties of it in 3 washes by using nothing more than APC concentrate mixed in soap. The label of course claimed YEARS of durability. Others that claim self cleaning proved to do no better at repelling grime than a basic poly sealant.

My point is this - the coatings market has some legit players, then theres a lot of guys relying on smoke, mirrors, and consumer ignorance to capture market share. Heres the funny part - in the world of coatings there primary raw material (polysilazane) only comes from a limited source. The newer versions that promise more gloss cut that with resins. In a dumbed down way more resin = more gloss, but less durability. What you should be looking for in a coating (IMHO) is out and out durability since it can be topped with more traditional LSP's for the asthetic aspects.

What is truly exciting is whats on the horizon, legitimate self healing coatings that can be wire brushed and level themselves out in just moments. The catch - they require a full clean downdraft paint booth, professional paint spraying equipment, and cost thousands of dollars to have applied. Not exactly technology that people will be using at home.

The current generation of stuff is becoming more and more user friendly, what needs to happen is more consumer education as to what a coating can actually do. There are far too many claims that are just baseless out there and too much hype by guys who don't know any better. If/when we finalize a coating product the goal will be to set REALISTIC expectations for what the product does - not a bunch of outlandish promises.

Is a coating really a product everyone needs? IMO no. I wouldn't ever apply one to my C/10... doesn't make sense. Would I use one on my daily driver thats parked outside 24/7? Absolutely. Theres viability for use on wheels for most people, but not entire cars for everyone. We'll delve more into it as we work towards a solution of our own.

Coatings are easier to clean and are more chemical resistant than sealants and waxes. With a coating, bugs and even tar just rinse off of my car. A touchless wash also gets the car 90%+ clean and the chemicals do not affect the coating and all of my trim and paint is coated, so I don't need to worry about the chemicals harming exposed trim. Yes, I'll probably need to polish my car before the coating gives up, but the benefits are worth it to me even if I will never experience its full durability.

Kurt I'm glad you think outside the box, we are all Adam's users here and it's good to see you trying new things, a little creativity can do wonders for all.

Chris and Rich I respect your opinions and the joy of the process, but ask any guy who details for dollars, Larry Kosilla, Garry Dean, Phil Yiu, all well respected detailers, and they will all tell you they have clayed vehicles with a fresh bucket of suds, just as effectively, while saving time and making more money.  Heck, I think Larry actually has a youtube video recommending it for really hammered vehicles that haven't ben decon'ed in a while, just because its easier than blowing through 32 oz or more of lubricant, and you can finish the decon stage before you even dry the car.

I have no problem with anyone here recommending to use Detail Spray when claying, but I do have a slight issue with insinuating that Kurt, or another detailer here is not decontaminating their paint properly just because they are not using the 1 product recommended in the Adam's regimen.  Different methods, same results.

Personally, I prefer to save my expensive Detail Spray for drying agent and for other wipedowns such as interior wipe, etc.

When I heard that Dylan was dismissed from SCG, I called him immediately, and invited him to lunch.  We immediately offered to bring him back, as he was a pivotal part of the growth that we experienced while he was on our team.  Let's face it, Dylan rocks, and we would love to have him back!

He is looking at several options currently, and will be making a decision that is best for his family, and bank account! SEMA is next week, and he has multiple offers and meetings.

We did part ways on good terms, and would love to have Dylan on our team again.......

Go Dylan, and no matter what, we support him and his family!

Look like there are some highly P'd off people over at SCG forum.  Rightfully so.  Just doesn't make sense unless he did something to violate their regs but I doubt that to be true because of the kind of person Dylan is.

    That makes sense.

I only have 3 buckets but if one can use the GDWM you really don't need an expensive wash bucket in the first place.  Just go to Wal Mart/Lowe's and buy one since you don't need to have a grit guard.

Because I rarely use the entire bucket of Rinseless and I only use each towel once I screw the lid on my rinseless bucket and use the leftovers later.  Four gallons of Rinseless can last at least 3 washes.

I tried this for the first time the other day. I'm impressed with the results. It seems no matter how hard I try to get the glass clean with Glass Cleaner, there's always some residue visible in certain lighting conditions. And it takes two cleanings with two towels, with the second cleaning using just a few drops of Glass Cleaner to get the residue left behind from the first cleaning. Using Brilliant Glaze on the inside left zero residue in any lighting conditions. It can't get any cleaner. And it worked in one very easy application and removal. I used a Blue Microfiber Application Pad for putting the glaze on, and a Blue Microfiber towel for removal. Works great!!

It's not exactly a gimmick.  Here was a test done with Dodo Juice waxes on their forum.  Now after a few months, the wax was still there, but the color was nearly gone.
