I have seen the light !!

KBsToy

Question

I have been bouncing around different detail forums and it just made my head spin with products and different opinions on them.  I am a believer in The Kiss method in getting my cars to look good. The perfect shine is never ending and maybe impossible to get. I admit I have OCD on this.

After reading about a person had about his polisher and the trouble he had with products and polisher I was surprised to see Adam want to step up andf ask to talk with him over the phone to help him with his problems and getting him straight. This is the forum I want to be on. I deleted others off my favorites list and put Adams on top :)

My question is what do I need to get my Camaro which is summit white with infernol orange to shine / pop. No a metallic paint. My wifes CTS is silver metallic.

I know about claying and trying to get paint clean to start process. Any advice I would greatly appreciate to start me on the right road with Adams products. Also need to change User ID from KBsGT to KBsSS

PS Ray and Jason  @ GPC are great it will be nice see to them at Adams Clinic the end of April...

Thanks

ken

K.I.S.S. is what Adams does best IMO.  Some guys like to mess around with 14 different products to get you to a point that's commonly no better than where 4 of Adams can get you.  I for one don't have the time to screw around with it.

The best thing you can do is peruse over these videos and watch the ones that fill in where you're ignorant.

What do you want your outcome to be?  Do you want to correct your paint?  If so, a Cyclo kit with the polishes is your best bet.

Welcome to the best detailing board..... In regards to what you need the simple answer is everything.... haha!!

In short it depends on the condition that the paint is currently in.  At a minimum I would recommend the detail spray, either of the sealants (I have only tried the quick sealant but have heard amazing things about the new one), and some americana wax (the small tub is on sale so a great bargain).  For a little extra pop the brilliant glaze is great.  I have a black car that I use as a DD and that BG just gives it a little something extra for the 15 minutes that it is clean.    If the paint is swirled and needs to be corrected their 2 step polishes are great and very easy to use.

Oh and I almost forgot but the VRT for the tires, a must have.

What Adan said ^^

And get that polisher out and try it! The only way to damage your car with Adam's pads and polishes is to drop the machine on it!  When you attend the GPC clinic ask to try a PC and the new pads and polishes - and the best part - it is on someone else's car!  But you will have an expert to guide you so no worries there.

The PC is as tame as a kitten!  Just watch the videos, get the correct products and pads, and do a small 2x2 area.

Keep in mind, this isn't a quick process!  It takes time to achieve perfection.

:iagree:

Ken,

I am also a "newcomer" to the detailing world myself and just started using my buddy's Cyclo on my "new to me" BMW.  I agree that it can be nerve-racking to take a "polisher" to your paint.  After I did a test area on my car, I watched the videos again on my phone out in the driveway and I felt a TON more confident and finished the entire car.

Now, with what Chewy said, I agree.  I went over the car completely with Adam's two stage process and it looks GREAT...  (about 85-90%) After I protected it and learned some more tricks and techniques from more videos and forum posts, I noticed that I missed some spots and now have the tools to bring that closer to 95%.  But it will take an additional couple of passes with the polishers and focus pads.

If I really spent time filling in all of the chips (5 years of HARD highway driving, before I got the car) and DEEP scratches, I can get pretty close to 100%.  It will take time, but it will ALL be WELL worth it.

Each time you make another pass or use a new technique, you are bringing your vehicle that much closer to perfection (borg joke). :)

Ken,

Also, to answer your direct question, I would recommend watching the videos again, start with a 2 bucket wasy, followed by a good claying of the car, then the PC and the two stage polish from Adam's.  After that, I would seal it, glaze and wax it.  That way it is protected and it will give you a GREAT depth and shine to the finish.  You won't get everything on the first go around BUT you can enjoy the fruits of your labor and have it protected until you have time again to take the protection off and continue correcting where you left off.  Then you can put the protection on again and it will look EVEN BETTER.   :)

protection = paint sealant by itself as a bare minimum

On top of the protection, I like to add glaze for shine, then wax to add a second layer of protection and to add AMAZING depth.

This is also known as a Full Face-Melter.

If you are going to come back the next week and correct some more, I would just seal the paint with the paint sealant and then strip wash it off the next weekend and continue to correct (to save on product usage).

Pop a couple ounces of APC in your soap bucket so it strips previous product off the paint and you are ready for fresh protection

Sorry.  I didn't define that term.  Thank you Ricky for explaining it.

That's a good kit.  It's nice because if the paint is hard then microfiber is the way you want to go.  If it it not too hard or soft then foam will be what you need.  Don't forget the backing plate.  I have a PC and it gets the job done to maintain my personal cars.  I just finished using the new liquid paint sealant on my white 02 Camaro.  I have nothing but good things to say about it.

This is a good kit to get.

I would add

Liquid paint sealant for longer protection

http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-1014-new-adams-liquid-paint-sealant.aspx

Green Wheel cleaner

http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-436-adams-green-wheel-cleaner.aspx

In and Out Spray for those hard to reach areas

Total Interior Detailer

http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-924-adams-total-interior-detailer.aspx

Not sure if your cars have leather but if they do you could pick up the leather cleaner and conditioner.
