Honestly I think it’s just the reflection and the way the surface curves there. It wasn’t all orange peel there. If it were we would have found the door had been repainted with our paint thickness gauge and sent him back to the dealer since it was brand new.

Looking now, the photo makes it look bad!

I know you do  a fantastic job, that is why i asked if it was just the angle. You are right, being a new car, I would personally go back to the dealer and request a fix for that.

Yup!  Think it’s just the way the light caught the rounded edge of the door!

These looks great! I noticed something in the Jeep pictures that I have noticed on other cars. In the first picture above, I see what looks like textured paint on the pillar behind the door. I can also kind of see it on the fender in the second picture. Is this just the nature of some paint that manufactures use? Since the Jeep is brand new, it can't be a defect. It seems like could take away from a mirror like finish that other cars can end up with. It still looks amazing. I just think it's weird that some cars have "textured" paint while others have glass smooth paint.

I went back and looked at that Jeep before I delivered it back to the client. Final photos will be coming as soon as I pull them off my camera. But the texture you see is actually that the Jeep has a fiberglass hard top. So the fiberglass has texture which is what you are seeing on the Jeep. Orange peel looks nearly identical though.

And if you guys are wondering about about some tools that let us get the results we do, this is the main polisher collection we have at our disposal. We also have a DeWalt rotary which is set up with an Auto-triz pen style micropolisher (smallest is a pad the size of a chapstick cap).  That polisher doesn’t hang well. We also have a cyclo machine set up with carpet brushes that comes out occasionally as well, but it doesn’t hang well on these racks either.

So we are all Rupes. We have a 21mk2, two 15mk2’s, Rupes Mini, Rupes Nano shortneck, Rupes Nano longneck, cyclo and DeWalt.

Tools are one of the biggest differences between someone getting paid to do work, and someone just doing their own work.

And as promised, here’s the Jeep!  Sorry the pics aren’t better on this one. It was super cold when I had to deliver it.

We have an Audi A6 coming in tomorrow for a one step polish.

I hope this thread isnt only for professional detailers.  Washed my truck today and my wifes car looked miserable, having not been washed in probably 4-5 months.  Thank God for grit guards, ultra foam soap, and turbo sticks lol.  I hate washing her wheels.  Ended up doing some correction on the roof and hood.  Apparently her wiper blade flew out and scuffed up her roof and windshield.  Most of the damage came out but i need to go back over with heavy correcting compound to fix it completely.  The car needs to be clayed too but I hadnt planned to work on it today and got a late start and ran out of time.  I dont know when ill be able to keep her car for an entire day again so I just applied LPS and Americana.  Cleaned the tires, trim, and plastic with TRC, applied TA, and undercarriage spray.    I missed a couple spots on the wiper cowl, my fingers are too big lol.  I need to invest in a wiper arm puller.  I wish I would have taken some before pics, the car looked terrible lol.

@shane@detailedreflections i thought we lost you!  Great pics and fantastic work.
As i scrolled down i kept changing my favorite Pic!
GTR was my early favorite, changed over to the Aston, before ending with my winner.... the Porsche!!

PS ..no reason for the GTR to have 1200 hp!!!!  That’s insane. Would have loved to park it for u!! I wonder  what is 0 to 60 time is?🤔

I hadn’t given it much thought. I might look into it now that you mention it though. I wanted to hit SEMA but wasn’t able to this year.

I’m still around. I was pretty busy with work, life and the business. Add to that that most discussions here revolved around scents and I felt I needed to take a break. But, here I am!

The GTR has a crazy twin turbo setup. Even just moving it was wild. And he said he thinks he has a couple of bad injectors. It runs on alcohol for the most part. Pretty wild car.

We still have the Porsche. It goes for vinyl work next week and then it’ll be done. Gloss black spoiler, door handles and mirrors and 35% tints.

The next project for that client is a Ram 1500 Limited that’s being wrapped in matte grey leaving gloss black emblems, window trims and wheels. Then being coated in a lifetime warranty coating. Should look great. That’s next month.

As always Shane, I appreciate your you sharing your work and knowledge and that Red GTR was beautiful.   I also see that you got your shop insulated, I'm sure that is really helping for the cooler months.

Thanks. We did get insulation up. That little bay is still awesome to work in. We are constantly evolving our setup and techniques. It amazes me still how far we’ve come in our process, business and the cars we work on.

We have some new logo revisions too and I’m working on a new website. One of my friends does marketing and branding and is helping us out out of her own kindness (she’s a partner at her business). She helped me with this years sweatshirt designs, logos, business cards...and now the website and some focused marketing. So look for all that to launch soon!!!!

How many hours spent on that hauler, @shane@detailedreflections

3 guys, 16 hours. Including a single coat ceramic on the cab and leading edges. One step of polish. We also had the benefit that the client had washed it prior to putting it in the shop, so we saved that time. Had we had to do all that and dry it, probably 18-20 hours. But again, that’s with three guys. Three polishers. Etc.

@shane@detailedreflections what do you recommend for the Ram chrome grille?  My CPC will be here soon and I’m going to spend a few days correcting them truck, but the chrome seems to be a different animal.

Are you trying to correct the chrome in the grille?  Or protect it?

If you’re looking to correct it, I believe the grille on that is a “chrome” plastic. It’ll correct like paint, you just need a smaller polisher to really be effective.  I’d start with with a finishing combo and go from there. If you need more, move up in pad/polish/compound aggression.

If it’s metal (again, I don’t believe it is from my memory), you can use a metal polish on it.

Once that’s done, you can apply ceramic right over it and it’s business as usual.
