Feets31 reacted to Chonke in Headlight Restoration Kit
So I was planning on detailing the truck this weekend but its going to be really windy this weekend, so itll have to wait for next week. However, I just received Adams new Headlight Restoration Kit. Really fast shipping btw. So i figured Id get a little head start and do the headlights.

Keep in mind that this truck is the exact opposite of a garage queen. I drive it through harsh roads almost daily and it definitely needs a little restoration Especially the headlights. This is actually the second time I take care of the headlights. The first time I used a big store headlight kit and it was a little disappointing. It took a lot of steps and it left a lot to be desired.

This time around, the headlights were in worse condition, so I decided to wetsand them and coat them with some UV rated clear so they last longer. I used 400, 800, 1500, and 2000 grit wet sandpaper.

Heres a picture of what they looked like:

As you can tell, they need some serious help. I started with 400 grit sandpaper. I mixed water with a little bit of adams rinseless to create a lube for wetsanding.

I gave it two passes with 400 to get it as even as I could. Immediately, all kinds of yellowish oxidation started dripping while I started sanding. But after a while I came out with this:

Once I felt it was nice and even, I switched over to 800 grit, and so on until I finished with 2000 grit.

Now what we were all waiting for...

It came packaged very nicely. Much fancier than your big store kits.
It came with a little sheet of instructions, pretty much showing the same steps as adams video tutorial.

I started with the microfiber cutting pad and Heavy Correcting Compound.

Then I moved on to the blue pad and Heavy compound, and finished with the white pad and finishing polish.

    These were my results

Looks much better than before. I noticed they have a little oxidation from the inside of the lens too which is impossible for me to remove without baking the headlight and popping it open. But thats ok with me. It still looks a whole lot better than before.
I started late, so it was starting to get dark outside and I only finished one headlight. Tomorrow Im going to do the other light, and go back and give it a second pass with the heavy correcting compound if I have enough left over. Im sure I will, but these headlights arent small, so I wanted to make sure I have enough for both lights first.

    Last picture for comparison

Please pardon the dirty truck, next weekend she gets a bath.

Can report back that this worked perfect.

Taped off an area larger than the spot and took a finishing polish with a white pad to it.   Reapplied the coating after cleaning and it worked flawlessly.

Just got back from driving at the BJ Auction. This is my fifth day in a row and have six more to go.

Anyway, between my car driving and video-ing duties, I did manage to hit the Adam's tent a couple of times. Enjoyed chatting with (sorry if I got your name wrong, suffering from cool car overload) Calvin from Ohio(?). When I get a chance, I'll be by to purchase some products. I'm loving those cool blue shirts!

Each day, Adam has taken some time to say hi to me either at the tent or at the DIY tent.

Anybody want to see some Adam's tent photos? I'll shoot them tomorrow. Got lots of cars photos.

I hand polished some corner pieces on my car today. Don't mind that Vinyl wrap. It's getting replaced soon. I used an old MF towel I had and Adam's correction polish for the buffing. I did a cross hatch style pattern going in circles with my arm as fast as I could lolol. I also used the Finishing polish. It made a slight difference but the camera didn't really pick it up. All in all it was a huge improvement. After I gave them a IPA wipedown and used Adam's Paint Sealant for protection.

Do what you need to for the Windows, it's a safety thing. For the paint I always brush the snow off the car, but I leave about an inch of snow on the car.

If I may offer up some advice (I might know a thing or 2 about the tools   )

It really depends on how detailed you want to get... the mini will get a ton of areas you wouldn't reach with another tool and for most people the remaining areas aren't going to be areas of major concern.

That being said - the Nano will get into every space the mini will and more, plus the added versatility of running brushes, battery power, 3 movement types, etc. The Nano easily justifies the price tag for what it can do... the challenge is deciding are those additional features worth nearly 2x the price for you.

It really does fall into the category of professional tools - if you're doing this as a profession its a no brainer, but if you're simply a hobbyist then its entirely possible the Mini will do all you need it to.

Jason, It's both our garage kept vehicles.

I really dont want to clay, LSP and wax two vehicles unless I have to. The TBSS has not been outside more than 3 hours at a time and only seen 1500 miles this year.

I am going to start by trying another bottle of Detail spray that is not filled from my gallon jug and a couple double soft towels that are still factory bagged.

If that does not work I will work on one fender starting with clay and working up.
EDIT: Yea definitely something on the Terrain.  Baggie test and clay proves that !

I feel like I need to post this here since it might save one of you someday.

I've been battling 2 kidney stones all last week and while I have had them before these just don't want to pass. This past Friday my family and I took a short trip to celebrate the birthday of a family member and I had no idea I could have lost my life.

I debated whether or not to go since the stones were causing so much pain but I decided to load up on pain meds and go. We make the 2 hour trip and as soon as I get to the room I use the restroom hoping to pass the stones but instead I get hit with a dizzy spell along with the right side of my face and arm going numb. I try to speak and I just cannot get the words out. My immediate thought is I'm having a stroke.

My wife comes in the room and I'm trying to tell her something isn't right. She finally sees that I'm talking about more than just kidney stones and we head to the nearest ER. Call it luck, fate, whatever but we are 3 miles from the closest one. They start the protocol for stroke and it sets in that I have indeed had one. Although the CT scans were inconclusive the "clotbuster" meds have completely reversed my symptoms and I have suffered zero side effects from what they are calling a mini-stroke.

I know a lot of the members of this group have OCD tendencies and Matt himself knows what it's like to hold stuff in. Please try to take it easy and don't let this stuff put undue stress in your life. I was truly scared for my life. I turned 38 last Monday and I had no clue what was about to happen to me.

Take care of yourselves because life can change so fast. I thank God I was in the right place at the right time and the staff at the hospital were able to act quickly to treat me. I'm happy to say we're back home and I'm looking forward to some much needed rest (even though I STILL have the 2 kidney stones lol).

Thank you for reading this and please check out this life saving info on strokes.
