Glass is sort of my forte.

I use soap and water with a single soft to clean glass. Then I use Glass Cleaner and a glass towel to make them streak free. Once clean, I maintain with Glass Cleaner.

Airborne oils and chemicals adhere to glass. You need soap to get the oils off. Once these are gone, Glass Cleaner will be able to do its job.

As said its up to you, I would start with what is your budget and work from there.

I started with a PC and it really is a great machine as Adam says for those doing a couple corrections a year. Cheap entry level but quality tool. Will do you just fine, not as fast as other models Adams offers but certainly capable of handling your need.

I have moved on from mine however (its now with another member here) and have upgraded to a Cyclo and Mini, I like the ability to share the pads between the two machines and keep less stock of pads around. I have not put a bunch of work into it yet but yeah....its a really smooth pair of tools.

I have heard a lot of great things about the Flex, however I was also warned that it is a beast of a machine and might be a bit much for a new detailer. Not saying it couldnt be handled but it does by far work the fastest at correcting.

If money was no object...I would own a Rupes 15, Cyclo, and Mini. As stated they all have their place in the shop but can all be used alone and produce just fine results.

If I were to recommend one polisher for someone fresh into correcting paint it would probably have to be the cyclo. Had a pc for years, and while it did get the correcting done just fine for the 2 vehicles I maintain, it does vibrate a good bit and just doesn't compare to the higher end polishers adams carries. Was thrilled when I upgraded to the cyclo, very comfortable and easy to use, can do large panels while also reaching tighter areas, and is completely safe to use without fear of damaging the paint. My 2nd recommendation would be the rupes 15, just purchased one and only tried it out a few times, but absolutely love everything about the 15 and can't wait to put it to use, only down side to the rupes 15 is it won't be able to fit some tighter areas like pillars or around door handles, which I have the mini or cyclo for those areas anyway. I have always avoided the flex, while many love it, I tend to try and take things to the next level and polish paint a little more than I should, and could see myself causing damage with the flex. The cyclo is a good fit bc it can do large and tighter areas, but the rupes 15 may require a 2nd polisher for tighter spots. Choose wisely my friend!!

    Since you read the charts,

I started with the PC but outskilled it fairly quick and I turned it into a 4" inch small area polisher.

I now have the Flex 3401 which I really like, fast and powerful but you have to be a bit more careful with it and definitely have to hang on to it.

I tried the cyclo and was amazed on how smooth it is, next to no vibration, I could do a panel all day without getting tired.

Comes down to what you are comfortable with, I chose the PC at first because it is impossible to do damage to your car with it even if you try. I didn't have much knowledge of the polishers so I felt safet that way.

    Andrew,

It really comes down to how bad the scratches and swirls are, and how much money you will end up spending on a machine.

The Cycle and Rupes 15 are both great, well balanced, and correct the majority of defects, although they may require additional passes with the various pads and polishes.

The Flex will correct more defects more quickly, but has a higher learning curve to use compared to the others.

The Adam's chart, and videos show all of the "pros & cons" of each machine, and it truly does come down to your own unique needs and budget.

By the way, I have a Flex, Cyclo, and Rupes Mini, and use them all at various times. For me, the Cyclo finishes the best on most vehicles, the Flex repairs the quickest, and the Mini is used for small specific areas only.

    Hope this helps.

StubStang reacted to AmyAtAdamsAustralia in Pole mounted wash wedge!
Great concept! However I'm not too fond of any wash or dry medium "on a steeeek" when cleaning paint and here's why...

By constructing something like what is pictured it essentially become a lever and the physics of a lever is to exert a magnified output force from a smaller input force.

A lever is the simplest machine that has two material parts and two working components such as a beam or solid rod, a fulcrum or pivot point, an input force (or effort in this case) and an output force. Think of when you have to pry a nail out of a board using a crowbar. Little force input is given for a magnified resistance force to lift the nail.

By using a wash wedge or mitt that is extended on a pole, the force exerted at the output end (wash wedge) has the potential to be greater than the input (force from your arms and hands). Without factoring in that your own shoulders, elbows and wrists are levers within themselves, a wash wedge stick may cause extra and unnecessary "grinding" of the paint increasing the odds of inducing swirls.

On the other hand it will indeed save you bending to wash the lower parts of doors and rocker panels, I get that completely, but if you're like me, that's the last place I want swirls and scratches as I don't wan't to have to lay down on the floor later on wrestling a Flex Polisher to get them out.

    Try some RP.

If that does not work, then you will probably have to machine polish them with PCP.

Check out americanmuscle.com they have car covers specifically for certain years that are custom fitted. I have purchased one from them and it's great! My car is garage kept all the time but I bought a indoor/outdoor cover just in case it would happen to sit out a night or two.

Writing my thoughts on a few different products:
Long handle wheel brush: worked very well, created suds/ bubbles when used with green wheel cleaner, got rid of the dirt inside lug-nut areas also.

Paint Sealant: Easy to apply, easy to remove after hazing properly. As a result, the paint looked event better than with what I normally used.

New blue clay bar: After using the first generation clay bar compared to the blue one, I am convinced that the blue clay bar is more efficient than the older material. The older material had stuck to my hand and was way more time consuming (three times more time used than the blue clay bar) although the results were practically the same.

Rinse and wash label buckets: easy to remember which was used for soap and rinsing. good idea!

Adams is still my number one car product in my book, the results are the proof as to why!!

If you don't have the caddy connector for your buckets, get it.  It makes life so much simpler not having to carry two buckets at separate times.  http://adamspolishes.com/shop/accessories/bucket-caddy-plate-adapter.html

I hope it does end.  If they try to recreate it with different hosts it will totally fail just like every other country that has done it including the TERRIBLE US version.  Those 3 are a team and cannot be reproduced, ever.  The banter was just to great and cohesive.  I really hope to see them all again on something like a straight release to Netflix or similar type of show.  If a network is smart they'd be making phone calls for the trio.

Top Gear is done, BBC will soon be kicking themselves as they should.  All I know is I will NOT be watching without Clarkson, Hammond, and May.  RIP Top Gear.
