red94chev reacted to Ricky Bobby in Pole mounted wash pad
Personally I would rather my wife have to lean over the hood/roof and possibly get her top wet with suds, its the little things that make me happy after a few years of marriage - so no wash pole for me.

red94chev got a reaction from Dylan@RUPES in 3m eraser wheel?
I've eraser wheeled probably 100 badges. Never had an accident. Just keep the rpms down with the drill and have it turning so that the wheel is "pulling" the adhesive up and not just rubbing on it. Diluted isopropal alcohol to finish off any gooey spots and polish to perfection.

red94chev reacted to Dylan@RUPES in RUPES BigFoot Production Officially Starts in the USA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
BigFoot Production Officially Starts in the USA
Longmont, Colorado – July 27th, 2016 - Continuing their commitment to growth in the US market, RUPES announced today the beginning of production for a number of their popular BigFoot electric polishers at their North American facility. This event marks the first time that the primary manufacturing of the class-leading BigFoot tools will occur outside of Italy.
“It’s truly an honor.” says Chip Case, General Manager for RUPES USA. “The investment and the faith in our team here in the US to build these tools shows just how committed to supporting the US market RUPES is.”
Manufacturing tolerances and standards set in Italy are maintained in the Colorado facility, including strict quality control. LHR21ES and LHR15ES tools from the US factory have already begun to make their way into the market with the Mark II versions and other BigFoot models to follow by the end of Q4 2016.
After bursting onto the scene about 5 years ago, the RUPES BigFoot family of tools have become the preferred option for professionals and enthusiasts. With manufacturing of the tools now a reality in the US, the company will be able to provide even higher levels of service and produce tools to meet the ever increasing demand.
RUPES SpA is a one of the leading manufacturers of specialty electric and pneumatic tools as well as vacuum dust extraction systems for a variety of industries including detailing, body shop, industrial, woodworking, and marine.

red94chev reacted to BRZN in What did you do today?
Dyno Tune done on the GTO at Complete Street Performance located in West Chester, PA after my work to her from last winter. It didn't take too much tweaking from her previous tune to get her spot on. Increase of 5 horse power and 25 foot pounds of torque. She put down 405 HP with 407 foot pounds of torque. All bolt on's; stock heads and cam.

red94chev reacted to Odds and Ends in Cleaning Your Engine Bay is not just for Concours
A little public service announcement - Clean your engine bays!
For those of us that detail for a living, recommend it to your customers. For those who are weekend warriors, let this be an example to us all.
Here's the story. My mechanic buddy loves BMWs, me not so much, but we always look for broken cars to fix, especially ones with dead motors or bad transmissions that he can fix, I can clean, and they get resurrected and passed along to new owners. So, I respond to an ad for a 2002 BMW 530i....nice enough body, nice enough interior, ad claims that everything works but it may need a new motor. We go to look in person and sure enough, can't turn the motor - it's seized up! I buy the car. I buy a used motor. We are really curious what caused this. Not changing the oil frequently enough is the most common cause but we find something very interesting. Upon removal of the old engine, we find standing water in the intake. How did it get there? There were no signs of flood damage or a water line anywhere. After putting the new engine in and getting everything connected, it all began to make sense. The power brake booster got water in it and the vacuum lines sucked the water into the engine causing it to hydrolock. When the old brake booster was pulled out, it was still about half full of water even after trying to get as much out as possible. Here is a shot of the brake booster compartment. The drain holes are full of leaves, dirt, and debris and the rain water just filled up and went into the brake booster.
So, lack of regular cleaning and just plain old paying attention locked up a motor and effectively destroyed a car! If your car is not garaged, clean out those leaves, twigs, and other debris. Blow out cracks and crevices with an air compressor or leave blower. Don't let a dirty engine bay destroy your car.

One of my favorites. This is my gf's Nissan Versa which I'm sure had never been detailed.

red94chev reacted to Beemer in New here - which products?
Let me get this straight: You want to detail your car on the cheap and don't want to spring for quality micro-fiber towels but you do want to get a pressure washer and foam cannon?
Seems a little crazy to me - but do what makes you happy.
If you're asking for advise I recommend you spend the pressure washer money on an Adam's kit and some quality micro-fibers - learn how to do a two-bucket wash. You can add the pressure washer later if you want to stick with it.

red94chev reacted to Ricky Bobby in Help With VRT
You'll find that if its overapplied and you give it a wipedown with Waterless, diluted Rinseless etc after the first rain or first wash you'll still have the fresh new trim look and it won't do it anymore going forward and stay looking black for a month or two - Less is more with dressing in general, there is only so much product a piece of trim can absorb -
I probably use maybe 1/2 oz total to do all 4 of my X5 tires and when needed I probably use a total of 1/4 oz to do my trim - and I do NOT need to do my trim each time I dress my tires since it really lasts a while on plastic
As well, clean your foam block applicators often, especially if you are using them on tires as well as trim - there is a black gunk that the blocks pull out of the tires when applying the dressing and it is basically some dead rubber off your tires (even if they are cleaned before dressing) - if you go and try to apply dressing to trim with a decently soiled applicator for tires that could definitely contribute to product running
Alternatively you could use separate tire and trim applicators and the trim applicator will need cleaning less often.
My 50cents...

red94chev got a reaction from Dan@Adams in Thoughts on new wheel cleaner scent
Finally got to use mine yesterday and I like it. It's definitely thicker and sticks to the wheel better than the last one and seems to stay more active when you are agitating it with the brush. As far as smell, the old one didn't bother me at all but the new one smells pretty good. I like the hint of vanilla even though it smells almost like pineapple to me. I'm very happy with it.

red94chev reacted to Dan@Adams in Time to Catch Up and Get Ready for the Driving Season
I forgot to mention that I couldn't resist the nice weather yesterday and took mine out last night after I found and fixed my boost leak. It hits 7psi just fine now
The new problem is that after sitting for so long, when I cut the wheels backing up in the driveway, power steering fluid started leaking from somewhere near the pump and dripped onto the serpentine belt and ground. As you can imagine, I now had nice red fluid flung all over the engine bay from the spinning belt...fun cleanup at midnight...
Dave, any time you want to stop and detail the undercarriage of a blue GTO, let me know...I'm going to busy enough cleaning up the engine bay now

red94chev got a reaction from James__ in Need help on where to begin
I'd bet that the shipping process/dealer put the swirls on the truck. Either way, I would do the following if it were mine.
1. Watch Adams Cyclo/paint correction videos
2. Watch Adams Shine Doc removing rail dust with Deep Wheel Cleaner video (for future reference if it was all taken care of by your detailer)
3. Strip wash the entire truck
4. Paint correction
5. Paint sealant and maintain properly and not let dealer touch it
6. Watch all Adams videos since they are great to learn from
