We did have leather scented air fresheners for a while. They sold out fast! I put in a request to get more of them soon so hopefully it goes through

I was fooled! When I pre-checked the paint, I figured the water spots looked bad but are probably easy to get rid of with a clay bar or paint finishing at its worst but boy was I wrong. It took no less than 4 passes with paint correcting polish and microfiber pad for each 2x2 sections to get rid of it.

I would've never guessed that water could get so deep into the car like that and cause such a pain. The current owner takes very good care of the car but said the previous owner is to blame for this, it's the one thing that always bothered him about the car.

To be honest, I wouldn't even know how to duplicate this issue.

    14) You use your motorcycle when it's raining sideways instead of driving your clean car.

    15) When someone says he "waxed" his car you want to yell at him and ask what he actually did to it (sealed, glazed, waxed..)

    16) You disregard everything somebody says when you learn he got his supplies at the local store

If you are new it is even better as you get to try new products at the same time and build up your inventory.

Very tough indeed, specially when you are starting out in this new world of swirls fighter and you have a daily driver. Give yourself a reasonable challenge. After the paint is corrected, tell yourself: I want to be able to count the swirls in 6 months.
If you are able to count them, you would have succeeded. Then do it for 1 year and so on, you will adjust your technique and end up with a swirl free car pretty quick.

I've been on here for a few years and still haven't managed a 100% swirl free car over a year period on a daily driver. But I can count them on about 2 hands.

AvsBest got a reaction from ledger64 in Haven't detailed in a year or so. Questions.
Even though they have a shelf life, I take it with a grain of salt. Unless I see that a product has a different smell, different look or different performance; I still use them as normal even if it's been 3-4 years. Let's face it, it's not like an expired detail spray bottle would put a hole through your paint.

The cream type products seem to be more inclined to go bad at some point than the spray type products.

Other than what Chris said, I'd just suggest that you slow your movement right down in the 2X2 section. Let's say it took you 1 minute to do 1 pass, make it 2 minute and so on as long as you don't hold it in one spot. You can also put a tad more pressure on the machine while holding it, it may help.

I learnt from my PC days that slower is faster. I found myself to be going to fast on bigger vehicles, probably because I don't wanna spend 3 days correcting paint on a single vehicle lol

Depending how new it is and if it was destroyed by the wash boys on the lot, you may be able to go straight from clay to sealant. My car had no swirls at all when I bought it so clay and sealant is all I did to it.

AvsBest reacted in How long does a good detail take?
You have to determine what type of detail your doing. Starting out, your going to get mostly "production" details.
These customers don't know the difference between a swirl and a squirrel.

What they basically want is a clean exterior, a clean and fresh smelling interior, and dressed tires.

So using Adams Products, your basically doing what Adam does in the Daily Driver Video, adding interior vacuum and wipe down.
A good question to ask your customer is what their main priority is.

Example, last fall I had 2 people contact me at almost the same time for a detail, I had that particular Saturday open, so I went at looked at both vehicles.

Vehicle #1 was a 2014 Lexus, the woman had a huge garage which was very clean, and wanted full correction, car only had light swirls, and paint measured out well at 190 micron avg..seemed like an easy job... and money was no issue.

When I asked her main concern, she opened the driver's side door and showed me heel scratches that were completely through the clear coat, only fix was repaint. She believed they could be polished out, and I suppose they could have, but no clear coat would be left. I didn't take the job.

Vehicle #2 was a 2010 Toyota truck, owner just wanted production detail, his main concern was if I could remove a badge, and a dealership sticker also. No problem. He was very happy with results, and I "threw in" Undercarriage spray on the wheel wells. He gave me a $20 tip, and referred two friends.

When figuring time it will take, how large is the vehicle? How dirty is it? How long will it take to clay or use clay alternative? How dirty is the inside?

On a normal sized sedan, I can usually do this in 2-3 hours. A larger or really dirty vehicle will take longer.

Sometimes you can manage expectations when people have unrealistic expectations, and some times you can't. In this case I was much better off declining Vehicle #1 and doing #2 instead.

To determine what to charge, call a few local detailer's and ask what they charge for a wash, clay, wax, vacuum, wipe down, and tire dressing, set your prices accordingly.

My Rupes Bigfoot 15 Mark II, Mini, pads, and polishes brush, and visco clay. Curious to see how that works compared to the blue clay.

Can't wait to try them out!
