That explains a lot on why it looked familiar - Some of the best food in the country is in San Antonio and then Austin is pretty much in the same category.  Now, I'm going to be thinking about the Salt Lick in Austin - not the one in the airport either, Fun place and good food.

Gave my mother's car some lovin' the other weekend....It was much needed. Every time I washed the car I felt all the "grit" underneath my wash mitt even though the paint "looked" clean. It has never been clayed in it's 130,000 miles of driving and it has certainly never been polished before.

I did all the normal wheel well cleaning, tire scrubbing, wheel face/barrel cleaning first and then I got to the good stuff....

I gave it a nice "strip wash" using another brand's soap that is PH rated at 11 which helps pull any old sealant/wax off the vehicle. I then clayed it with a visco clay bar and my homemade detail spray. The amount of gunk that was on the roof was incredible....

After that I rinsed it down, dried it off and applied VRT to all the plastic trims as to not stain it from any polish/wax. I then wiped the paint down with a "paint prep" otherwise known as wax & grease remover so my polishing pads performance was not affected from anything still on the paint.

I used Adams 21mm SK with their orange pads and another company's compound for a one step polish. I topped it all of with some BW to really make the red POP. It's some nice factory paint that hasn't shined this well since it was new. Overall I worked for about 6-7 hours on it including a quick interior detail (no pictures of that, though). Tires were done with VRT by the way...

There were some more serious defects that I could've gone after with a microfiber cutting pad and some more aggressive compound, but this is a daily driver with 130,000 miles on it so I would say this is perfect for her.

Just be careful with a hot rinse. A small amount of time may not do any harm but microfiber is made up of significant amounts of polyester which is a form of plastic, and plastic does not react well to heat and that can break down the fibers and lead to them not being as effective. try a pre-treat of the Revitalizer and cold water instead maybe?

I know I'm not the first to do this, but it was a first for me... so I thought I'd share. The far left heater control knob in my 1965 Mustang felt completely unattached to the cable that opens and closes the hinged heater box door. It's a simple, effective design requiring no electricity and I was pretty sure it would be an easy one-hour project. The thing is, getting to the heater control arm and cable is nearly impossible without removing the rally pac from the steering column and the instrument cluster from the dash.  So, to verify my suspicions I inserted a endoscope that sends a wireless live feed to my cell phone. It didn't take long to discover that the 53 year-old cable had snapped. In fact the bent end piece was still threaded through the attachment hole on the control arm. Luckily I had planned on replacing the cables at some point and had a brand new set still in the package ready to go.

I spent the next hour removing the rally pac, and disconnecting the speedo cable and light bulb sockets from the back of the instrument cluster, just so I could get to the damaged cable and control arm.

My garage has no power so I stuck an Adams Polishes magnetic LED light to the upper side of the interior dash to illuminate the tight, dark space. It was perfect for the task.

After another hour of squeezing my hands through crazy small spaces... the new cable was firmly in place and working, so I carefully put everything back together, and was actually pretty pleased that I didn't goof anything up in the process. Then I started putting away the tools, protective rags and miscellaneous pieces and parts. Like others here I'm a bit OCD when it comes to how I store everything in the house and garage. As I was putting everything back in to their designated spaces my eyes went to the now empty spot the Adams flashlight typically lives. It wasn't there, and for the life of me I couldn't remember setting it down anywhere. That's when it hit me that I may have forgotten to pull it down before closing everything back up.

So, once again I enlisted the endoscope and phone app... poked it under the dash... and low and behold... there was the Adam's logo looking all bright and crisp!

There was no way I was going to disassemble the instrument cluster again so I just sat there... completely frustrated. Then I remembered the time I replaced the defroster ducts, and that there was probably enough space to fit a finger or two if I pulled up the duct end pieces. If that was possible, I was fairly certain the flashlight would be within reach. So off came the defrost/speaker grill and 30 minutes later the flashlight was no longer buried in the dash, it was back on the wall where it belongs.

FYI... my husband laughed out loud for a full five minutes... so to make myself feel better... I logged on to the Adam's website and ordered a Mystery Bucket.

My plan is to leave my house at 7am, be to the show at 8am as soon as it opens, get a few bottles and drive right back home ... hopefully be home before my wife and 1 year old wake up ... they'll never know ?

You'll get a bunch of different opinions here.  For what it's worth, my #1 go to for all of the above is the Borderless Grey / Orange / Blue (new) Microfiber.  It is an all-around general use towel that's soft enough to prevent marks on all but the most delicate paints.

Let me know what you think and how this can help you-- Also, If there are any processes you are confused by, list them here and I'll consider them for future flow charts!

It is one of our front line engines.  All of our trucks haven't been cared for like they need to be.  They get washed when dirty, but that's about it.  No spit and polish.  With some of the current members, they are starting to show more ownership and pride in the department.  What better way to show that than to spend 5 plus hours on one of the engines.  It looks sharp and you can tell they spent a lot of time on it. (plus it is good PR, and I will take all we can get!)  They didn't get to the diamond plate though.

I guess I should have been more specific.  I'm doing the windows to get the hard waters stains off.  I don't want to attempt to do a correction/polish.  I'm going to start with vinegar and move to claying the windows before using a buffer on it.

Today was another day for learning the Adam's products.  I received multiple items on Friday, including H20 Guard & Gloss which was recommended by several members for use on my truck.   I decided to do my wife's car, which is 5 years old, before doing my truck, since she is so supportive of my efforts.  I have to say, I'm a bit amazed on what it did and how well it worked.  I followed the instructions on the video and it did what it said, the wife's happy and I am no longer hesitant about using it on my truck.

I did have one challenge, the humidity was running around 95% when I started and between the wash getting the H20 Guard & Gloss completed, the sun hit part of the car and I ended up with water spots on the chrome around the drives side windows.  I did not notice it while it was still outside, but once it was inside under the LED lights it was visible.  In order to get the water spots off, I took the gray towel that I had used earlier and rinsed in hot water and went over the chrome a couples of times.  This seemed to dull the chrome , so I hit it again with the GG and then it came out spotless and shiny.

Being my first usage of GG, I am glad that is if forgiving when you make a mistake.  I'm still not sure what my mistake was or it could have been a combination of humidity, sun, old man getting slow, etc., but what is important is that I was able to correct it.  Now, I get to relax until this evening when it cools down to do the  interior.

Cheers to the forum again! I missed number 1, but am still happy I placed.  I was in a different class this year with much more extensively modified cars, but still managed to eke out a nod. I also unfortunately scraped my splitter right after judging ?, so I’ll have to see what I can do to minimize the scrape.  Rinseless diluted 16:1 and VRT in the engine bay. Interior Detailer in the cabin, Brilliant Glaze on those windows, and Cinco De Mayo detail spray on the paint for the pre- judging touch ups.

I have also noticed that my pickup takes longer than the SUV's or the car, but I can't explain why - other than my pickup might get some extra love.

I generally do the outside of two vehicles on day one and then the interior of them the next day.  According to the weather I'll change which order I do them in, either way it is two exteriors or two interiors.  By doing half of two vehicles, I save time on getting out equipment, chemicals, etc., and it lets me focus on the task at hand and get into a rhythm - good music also helps.  As an example, when I start on the interior windows, I do every interior window on both vehicles and then I'm done with the Glass Cleaner and Brilliant Glaze so they can be put it away.   I know this method doesn't work for everyone, but for those that it does, it tends to let me run through the tasks quicker.

I also have my detailing tray set up in the chemical order so I can go from chemical to chemical without having to look or think about what is next.  My towels are set up in the same way so I know what is next by what I have used, I just work my way down the shelves and I'm good.
