I would like to provide my perspective on this discussion, including the observations, complaints, and follow-up comments. To be clear, the following is my own opinion, based on my observations and knowledge of the situation.

First, I generally agree with Brian's original post, that the forum has not seen the level of attention with promos and product announcements, that other media such as Instagram and Facebook have seen over the last year.

However, any assumption that this is Dan Tyger's fault is incorrect and unfair. Yes, the prior attention the forum had been getting from Team Members, in particular Dylan, changed when he left. But what most people don't realize is that Tyger's job description is different than Dylan's was, and as staffing changes, often the job descriptions and priorities also change.

For example, a few years ago a cool dude named Nick, who used to be a Team Member, ran all the forums, dozens of them, and that was his primary job description. Then he left, and Dylan came back to Adam's, and he ran the forums, creating videos and other content for the forums, in addition to working on product development, and the forum was always the first to know about any promo or new product, because he was also the lead on those initiatives.

So, Dylan leaves, and Tyger gets hired, and then he has a different job description. I know from my contact with Dan, that he works like crazy, long hours, and spends most of his time on the phone and answering your emails and Live Chats, which often does not leave him much time for this forum. In addition, when Dylan left, our man Chris Toth took over half the outside forums, in addition to being on AF, and Tyger took the other half of the outside forums. At last count, I think there were about 18 outside forums that Dan and Chris were managing. Last fall, I took over management of the Adam's account on the Ford Raptor Forum, which is were I spend most of my forum time.

As another example of staffing changes, another Team Member used to help with phones and emails, but has since been tasked with doing marketing work, leaving only Dan and Ben to handle the large customer service workload during these summer months.

As such, to assume that Tyger is responsible for the changes on this forum is incorrect. I was internet-friends with Dan before he went to work for Adam's, and we are in contact via text, email and phone on an almost daily basis. I can vouch that he works long hours, often still responding after midnight his time, and then he is right back to it at 7am the next morning. But with the phone/email/chat workload, he simply does not have the time to create the content that Dylan did, who was not primarily tasked with phones and email, and there was no Live Chat at that time.

I will say that from a marketing standpoint, it is clear the forums are not getting anywhere near the attention that they once did. It is obvious that the primary marketing focus is on Instagram and Facebook, with frequent promos, giveaways, new product announcements, and a significant increase in sponsored individuals on Instagram, with many of these brand advocates also doing promo work and giveaways.

Being a forum representative, it is my opinion that while IG and FB have high visibility, they don't provide anywhere near the user benefit or level of customer service that the forums do. The forum is where the detailing knowledge is shared by our dedicated and skilled members, who generously spend their free time helping out their fellow detailers, which is what makes this forum great.

I know that the comments and observations in this thread have been discussed by the Team Members and the Boss Man, and I certainly hope that more attention will be given to this forum, along with the other forums.

I'm very sorry you're disappointed with the forum lately Brian. I've been trying to keep my personal life private, but it's apparent that my absence here has been noticed, so I will give an explanation.   My father had a massive acute stroke to the right side of his brain. I have essentially been unreachable to anyone other than immediate family, Adam's Team Members, and email for the past 3+ weeks due to this unexpected and very difficult event.

As Adam's begins to grow, especially during these peak summer months, I've been answering phones, emails, and live chat tickets from 730AM to around 7PM EST Monday to Friday nearly nonstop, with an occasional break for lunch or to stretch. The time I have not been doing this, I have been spending the evenings in the hospital, then at my parent's home once my dad was cleared to come home, driving him to doctor's appointments, taking him grocery shopping, and so on. Now that he is starting to improve, I will be back to dedicating more time to the forum.

I'm sorry that you feel that I'm making excuses Chris. Hiring summer-time/temporary help for customer service is not always an easy proposition, as we would need to take more time to train the person on how to use systems, and they must have expert knowledge of our products to answer questions correctly. We recently hired more people onto the shipping team to handle an increased amount of orders, which increases our overhead expenses.  We will be looking into having more help on the forums as well.

While part of my job responsibilities are to oversee the forum with the other volunteer moderators and admins, there simply have not been enough hours in the day to devote the time needed here lately, and I do apologize. We strive to answer all emails as fast as possible. Some days the emails come in faster than we are sending replies out - calls and emails take top priority, because those are the best two ways to reach us about problems, order issues, and so on. We will work on prioritizing the answering of forum questions into the customer communication workload in order to provide the personal feel that the forums provide to our customers.

With new products, I cannot post answers about a product until I physically have it in my hands. I will not sugarcoat, guess, or make up an answer to a question - I will only answer questions if I have physically tested the product and can give a 100% truthful answer. I will work with Adam and the shipping team to make sure that new products get sent out to me and the other testers in a more efficient manner, so that we can answer questions immediately upon a new product release, and so that we do not have these problems in the future.

For the foam cannon, I received mine this afternoon at 2PM, so I immediately went out and verified that it works well with a 1.3 GPM, 1700 psi electric pressure washer. The specs were then updated accordingly on our site. The original specs were recommended from the manufacturer for best results. I was 98% sure the Foam Cannon would work fine with lower GPM pressure washers, as I have tested other brands no problem, but I was not going to post that until I was 100% sure and physically tested the unit. Again, better planning and earlier testing on my part would have provided an answer more quickly, but my mind was occupied on other things. For new product ideas, input, and issues, again I will make sure I find time to address these as well. All of these things do not sit on my mind lightly, as I do want to provide the best customer experience possible.

For the Mystery Box for Canadians, that is completely up to adamspolishes.ca as to whether they want to take part in those promotions, and it is best to contact them directly. Our Canadian team is even smaller than our U.S. team, and mystery boxes are a lot of logistics to plan, package, and make sure each one is fair before it ships out. I will reiterate to the appropriate people again about this issue and the thread that I forwarded to them. I never posted a response because I did not have a good response to post.

I am sorry that the forum is different than when you joined Brian, and I will strive to make it great once more.

    Respectfully,
    Daniel Tyger

This is probably the largest multi-quote I've ever done (I quoted more posts but I reached the max number), so I'm going to address it all at once, pointing out first that nearly all of these quotes derailed the original topic and intent of this thread and could have warranted their own thread.

As I said in the Waterless Wash thread a little while ago, the past few weeks have been more than immensely busy, and I have not had time to read through every post of every new topic on the forum - I try to quickly browse through and address questions and issues, but we are humans and can and will overlook things. I am sorry about that and for not responding for more than 10 days, and that is not "answer enough" as stated. It was brought to my attention by the moderation team over the weekend, and I just now have time to respond since the storm has calmed from the Father's Day Sale. Had I seen how much off-topic discussion this was generating in this thread, I would have moved it to a separate thread, but there's no point now. My PM's are also 100% full at the moment, because I simply haven't had time to take a minute to take a breathe and get to those

When product reviews are submitted, they are read and either approved or not approved. Two employees handle this process, neither of which is me, and they have dozens of other responsibilities. I've mentioned it before but I think it bears repeating - Adam's is a very small company of around 15 fulltime employees. We do not have a large staff, so it may take us a while to process product reviews that come in. Moderators and Admins do not have access to the product reviews that are submitted, as they only have control over things here on adamsforums.com, not adamspolishes.com. Like any business, we can receive a large amount of reviews, some of which are malicious and unwarranted, possibly due to another person or company purposely giving a negative review to bring down an overall rating of a product. This happens on our Amazon store as well, and we do try to protect the company from these types of incidents and look out for our best interests, as any business would.

Other reviews might be honest and say that a product wasn't what they were totally expecting and may only be rated 3 out of 5 stars for example, and if it's an honest review, they have every right to post it to the site for everyone to see. If we see reviews with a lot of curse words and so on at the PG-13 to R-rated movie level, whether in anger or excitement, poor grammar, poorly translated English from another language, etc, we may not post those, as we try to keep the company image clean and family friendly - that is always how it's been, and I imagine it will continue to be that way for the foreseeable future.

We've even reached out to customers that submit negative reviews to see if there is anything we can do to make things right, so I apologize if we unfairly did not submit 2 out of the 30 reviews mentioned above. So in summary, yes, we may choose to publish or not publish a review, but there are more factors involved other than simply something like "This customer submitted a 3 star review, so we won't approve that one." Several of the reviews I posted years ago are still up on the site, completely unedited, and far before I was ever a moderator or employee.

We try to be as honest as possible about everything for all aspects of the company without giving away proprietary information, but if you have other issues with our review process that you would rather keep to yourself, as you stated rrmccabe, there is no way that we can improve on things if we are not made aware of them, so please send us an email to tips@adamspolishes.com for the whole team to see if you would rather not discuss them here.

    Respectfully,
    Dan@Adams

Jeff, your original thread on this topic was locked as it started to trend to the negative in the responses, as Rich explained in the last post.

    http://www.adamsforums.com/topic/30783-why-adams-paint-correction-videos-are-misleading/?p=481244

Stating that the videos are misleading is inaccurate.  Expecting to become skilled at paint correction by watching a video or two is unrealistic.  Much like no one is going to become a master chef by watching the Food Channel.  It takes practice, research, asking questions, and more practice.

If you think it was unfair that your thread was locked, then we can see how responses in this thread turn out.

EVERYONE - Please be constructive in your responses, no bashing, just try and be helpful, even if you disagree with the original statement.

    No bashing here guys.

I think the main problem here is "expectations".  Following the videos, first timers think that it's going to be so easy to get your car to look showroom new just by following the steps.  Not so.  It's a learning curve.  Not every car is the same. Not every car has the same paint, problems,, clear coat, etc.  Not every car has the same contaminants.  Not every car has the same scratches or issues. The videos are a GUIDE on the steps to take to get the BEST result on each individual car.  Nobody (well at least me) gets it right the first time. Or even the second or third time. It's a process. You're going to have areas that are a lot tougher than others.  They're going to take more work, more passes, more product till you get it figured out.
You've apparently learned all of this along the way and even though it took 30 hours, you got the results you wanted.
You watched the video and "expected" to get it right the first time just by following the steps.  But that's not the way it works.  The videos are there to guide you and teach you what to do.  But that's all they are.  Guides.
    Thanks for your feedback Jeff.

As an alternative, try using a sponge to apply the tire shine. Spray the Tire Shine on the sponge, then apply to tire.

    Thinner sponge = higher gloss.
    Thicker sponge = Matte finish

Problem with aerosols is that they then need to comply to a whole bunch of regulations.  That is why quick sealant went away.

I have not noticed any streaking from applying H2O on my windshield that's treated with GS. Seems like it just adds to or replenishes the hydrophobic properties of the sealant.

Antv20 reacted to Dan@Adams in Triple soft towels
Great question! The new Triple Soft Towels have a longer, thicker nap when compared to the new Double Soft, which has a shorter nap to the fibers. It has the same 1100GSM rating as our old Double Soft towel, but with the thicker and longer fiber material. All 3 new towels are incredibly soft. The Triple will work great for many uses just like the Double Soft - Detail Spray wipe downs on the most delicate painted surfaces, polish and wax removal, rinseless washing, H2O Guard & Gloss application, and so on. I still like to recommend our Borderless Gray Towels for H2O Guard & Gloss though, since they're color coded to the product and then you don't have to worry about slightly staining your white towels like some people have issues with.

The new Single Soft has a little bit longer of a nap than the old towel as well, so it's similar to the Triple Soft in that regard, but the towel itself is much thinner and the fibers are not as thick as the triple. All 3 towels have a scratch-free satin edge border as well - Single has a black satin edge, double has a silver edge, and triple has a dark gray edge.

Here's a picture I just took of the new towels, each folded in half and then folded into thirds without trying to smash them down at all to show a fair comparison. From left to right - Single, Double, Triple. So much softness

This is a great thread, and the difference needs to be stated, especially with the new Americana, which was launched today!

Here's how I decide what Paste Wax to use:

Looking for amazing shine, only, on a finish that doesn't see many elements?  Patriot.

Looking for good shine, and great protection on something I drive often?  Americana.

Both are now easy to use.  If I was shopping for wax on a budget, and was only waxing my daily driven hot rod, I'd choose the Americana.  Big bang for the buck.

My $0.02.  You won't be dissatisfied with either, and on my winter beater, I don't use either, stick with the Paint Sealant!

I was nervous about applying the coating but after the first panel it was a breeze. Quite frankly it was easier than applying Americana. Certainly some coatings have a steep learning curve but some don't. I had a negative few of coatings at first. Thought it would take the fun out of it but it hasn't. Certainly helped me maintain both cars this winter a lot easier. Obviously I think if Adams would introduce a coating it would be similar to the product I used. Easy to apply plus the ability to wax over it.

Not true for all coatings. I am using a coating now due to my vehicles living outside 24/7. I can top it with a wax if I choose. I still get to enjoy detailing the car. Just requires a little less effort plus the paint looks amazing after a round of Detail Spray.

In my mind the main positive of a coating is its strength. While I'm sure that liquid sealant and occasional G&G will go very far in terms of duration and durability, I still feel that I'm at risk for etching from environmental fallout - bird bombs, tree droppings etc. I still panic and race to get it off my paint even if I look like a nut job doing so in a parking lot. With a coating, I envision myself using paint sealant and G&G just as I do now to boost the life of the coating, but perhaps I could rest a little easier with the shell of protection as a base layer. I do hope we see an Adam's coating in the future to compliment the rest of the lineup.
