That's almost dead on what I charged my aunt this past weekend. The funny thing though is that I actually don't mind just washing family and friends vehicles. A prime example is my niece; she's a college student and she works part time so I will gladly wash her truck if she wants.

It all comes down to how dirty the tire is. I don't think there is a cleaner out there that will get a dirty tire fully clean on the first go. No matter how much cleaner the tire may be with an other brand, you will have to make a second pass to get it 100% clean.

I also feel comparing brands should be done on a well-maintained vehicle; say one that is cleaned once a week. This way you already know what works every time and any difference be it better or worse will show up easier.

I'm all for trying different brands, but deep down I just want consistency. Bouncing around with different combinations will not yield consistent results. Example: I detailed my aunt's truck this weekend and this truck has been to Alaska and back with maybe 2 washes since it was bought last year. I decided to use Meguiar's Super Degreaser on the tires instead of "wasting" my Adam's Tire & Rubber cleaner on such a dirty tire. I only did one pass but I knew it wasn't even close to being 100% clean. Would they have been cleaner with Adam's? Most likely yes, but I still would have had to make a second or third pass.

It always depends on how dirty the tires are....

Did the first oil change on our 2016 Honda Odyssey and started detailing my aunt's 2016 Silverado Z71 which was driven from the dealer here in SC directly to Alaska for 4 months and then back (super dirty)!

    Hoping to finish up tomorrow.

That's understandable, lol! I guess once the weather gets better you could back off on using the G&G every time. It's not the cheapest stuff either, lol!

This is exactly what I did. I also left the soap on the car like a regular 2BW and rinsed off in the end.

I would definitely say with full confidence that they are pretty much the same gsm. I like the GWDT for the roof, hood, windshield and the smaller waffle weave towels for the rest. Mainly to prevent the towel from hitting the ground while drying the sides.

chops1sc got a reaction from SVillalon in How to clean & dress your WHOLE sidewall
This is a little tip I came up with (until someone else claims it, lol) for cleaning and dressing the whole sidewall of your tires without having to roll up a few feet to clean and then back again to dress.

I had some 2X4s laying around the shop, so I cut a 45 degree angle on one end and place one in front of each tire.

The plank is set in about 1-2" from the top of the sidewall. Then I drive up onto them. I usually get a little bit of a rolling start.
You wont believe how hard it can be to just roll up them LOL! Oh, and don't forget to set your parking brake...

Here you can see how they are set back from the sidewall.

Now, I can clean & dress all the way under the tire!

chops1sc reacted to avimore in Hands-free Wheel Shield
I wanted to make a wheel shield to help keep the Tire Shine over-spray off my wheels seeing as I have low-profile tires.  I got inspiration from Dan (TheWolf), but I wanted to make something hands-free so it would be easier to apply Tire Shine.

I bought a thin sheet of rubber, measured and cut out the size of my wheel:

I got a rubber seal strip with a lip so it could wedge between the wheel and the tire:

I cut out some triangle pieces so the rubber would bend and adhere easier around the edge of the circle:

I cut another piece of rubber to go under the tire and prevent any over-spray on the floor:

I'm very happy with the result, but even happier that I don't have to clean up the mess on the wheels left by over-spray!

But you know, I will never look down on someone that is willing to keep their car clean. Whether or not they are doing what we might consider the be "the right way" does not matter to me. It's the ones that never wash their vehicle that bothers me the most. Even the ones that are going through the automatic washers are attempting to make their ride look clean.

One thing we all need to remember here is that shine ultimately comes from the condition of the paint, not the wax. The wax is there as a protectant. I don't purchase wax to make my truck shine, I purchase wax to add protection.

I have the older Americana and I have not had any complaints about it. It goes on and comes off easy.
